on site
Release checks, preparation, build-up and stop conditions for 12 substrates. The current written specification governs. This guide is not a certificate and not a technical approval.
S-02 MicroCem-FB
01
Moisture release: No universal percentage gate; establish project-specific criterion, record instrument, method, units, and environmental conditions. Visible dryness is not approval.02
Substrate-driven reinforcement: Select primer and mesh based on condition. Mesh is not automatic and does not replace movement joint treatment.03
Wet areas and membranes: System is not a membrane. Decor Finish is for walls and dry interior floors only; additive use is unconfirmed. Wet areas/exterior not automatically approved.04
Stop-work rule: If substrate/exposure is not in Nikkolor docs, stop. Only apply above +10°C; stricter condition governs. Performance is not transferable between systems.Choose the substrate
MicroCem-FB on-site summary: Existing ceramic / porcelain tile
Guide reference September 2026. The current written specification governs. Not a certificate or approval.
Existing ceramic / porcelain tile
Release checks
- Tap-test for hollow/loose tiles
- Check grout/movement joints for activity
- Identify surface contaminants (wax/grease)
- Check for moisture beneath assembly
Preparation sequence
- Remove/rebuild loose tiles
- Degrease/rinse
- Mechanically abrade glaze
- Vacuum and fill irregularities
- Preserve movement joints
- Select substrate-specific primer/mesh
MicroCem-FB build-up
- 1Primer NK
- 2Microcem-FB (x2)
- 3Decor Finish (x3)
Layer order only. Do not add wet-layer thicknesses together, and do not transfer this build-up to a different project.
Stop conditions
- Loose tiles
- moving cracks
- silicone
- active moisture
- failed waterproofing
- uncontrolled movement joint
Limits
- If grout ghosts or cracks return, stop and correct substrate
Mixing, application and curing
- 1
Release the substrate
Confirm the precise substrate type, condition, expected exposure and protection requirement. Resolve instability, movement, moisture, waterproofing and flatness defects before any decorative work.
- 2
Select and record the build-up
Choose the substrate-specific primer, receiving layer and any fibreglass reinforcement. Record these decisions in the project quality documents. There is no universal build-up.
- 3
Measure the water
Use about 300 mL potable water per kg of powder, which is about 6 L for a 20 kg pack. The toner is additional: never subtract its volume from the water. Keep water, toner, equipment and mixing time consistent between batches.
- 4
Mix in sequence
Homogenise the shade-specific toner. Add water, then toner, mix to a uniform colour, then add powder gradually while mixing mechanically. Scrape the sides and base and remix to a smooth, lump-free paste.
- 5
Respect pot life
Use mixed material within about 4 hours at +20 C. Never retemper material that has started to stiffen.
- 6
Apply the primer or receiving layer
Apply the substrate-specific primer or receiving layer and let it dry as stated in its current technical data sheet.
- 7
First decorative coat
Apply with a stainless-steel trowel. Allow about 12 hours at +20 C, subject to actual drying and the recorded, substrate-appropriate release criterion.
- 8
Second decorative coat
Apply the second coat. Allow about 24 hours at +20 C before protection, again subject to actual drying and the recorded release criterion.
- 9
Refine the surface
Finish mainly by controlled trowel compression, with careful hand detailing of corners while the material is workable. Sanding is not a general finishing step. If one isolated detail needs refinement, wait at least 24 hours at +20 C, use P150 or P180 on that detail only, trial it on a sample first, then remove all dust.
- 10
Apply protection
Choose the protection for the real service condition. Decor Finish without a slip-resistance additive is only for walls and dry interior floors. Select the specified two- or three-coat cycle: the manufacturer builder uses 16 m² per 2.5 L for the complete cycle, before wastage. Tapioca Matt needs one Semi-Gloss base coat plus two Matt coats; confirm supply of the finishes separately. Use a short-pile roller and follow the current drying and recoating specification. PRP follows its own current data sheet and the project specification.
- 11
Protect the completed work
At +20 C: light walkability about 48 hours, hardening about 7 days, furniture about 10 days, full cure about 28 days. Keep the surface dry and uncleaned during the first week and never drag furniture. Dry does not mean cured.
Apply only above +10 C. Times are for +20 C and are not a release by themselves.
Hold points
- Moisture release check (No universal gate; document criteria and results)
- Substrate preparation (Stable, clean, dry, approved interfaces)
- Batch mixing (Measured water, toner, consistency, no lumps/retempering)
- Decorative recoat (Previous layer visibly dry/tested)
- Finish refinement (Compression only, no general sanding, clean dust)
- Protection and release (Service-appropriate cure/handover restriction recorded)
Decor Finish without a slip-resistance additive is only for walls and dry interior floors. Additive rating and use are UNCONFIRMED. Bathrooms, showers and exteriors are not automatically approved.
